A young man was House Springs was killed Wednesday night in a one-car crash in Jefferson County.

The Missouri Highway Patrol identified the victim as Reid J. Schiermeyer, 19.

He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Missouri Route Y at Jim Wilson Road, the patrol said.

Schiermeyer was driving a 1998 Oldsmobile 88 Royale south on Route Y about 8:25 p.m. Wednesday. The patrol said Schiermeyer was driving too fast for conditions. On a curve, Schiermeyer's car sped off the road and overturned. Schiermeyer was thrown from the car.

His passenger -- James D. Kotva, 17, of High Ridge -- was seriously injured. Kotva was taken by helicopter to St. John's Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur.
