Jefferson County officials are holding their collective breath as they await a decision by the Environmental Protection Agency.

 The EPA has launched a public comment period as it decides whether to add the county's Southwest lead mining site to the National Priorities List.

Jefferson County executive Chuck Banks says the designation would increase the pace of cleaning up hazardous lead residue.
