Bobby Lombard got both the surprise and thrill of his life Monday night.The Jefferson County Blazer second baseman was named the Most Valuable Player of the St. Louis Amateur Baseball Association at its postseason banquet at the Orlando Gardens in south St. Louis County.

That was a memorable moment of its own.

"It was a surprise," said Lombard, who was one of the key cogs on a team which set a record by crossing the finish line in the regular season with a 20-1 mark against SLABA opponents. "My goal coming into the season was just to make the all-star team."
