What always amazes me is the number of people who will stand up for this council and its tactics, some of which clearly violate Missouri law, without knowing much of the history behind it. I remember when things were a bit simpler, you could have a small business and actually survive because people knew you and your family. Your property wasn't something that would be threatened because WalMart wants to expand and the greedy hands weren't out waiting for their piece of the pie. You could live in peace on your property and in your home without having to worry about who's looking in your windows to make sure you have the correct number of animals. Taking video and doing illegal searches of your property when you're not home, I guess counting dog turds? Is that what my tax dollars are paying for??
The sewer bills are astounding. The lack of foresight by the GOB's is typical, but I never thought it would go this far. The highest taxes in the state. Yet, the same GOB's seem to be able to keep their hands in the coffers, robbing us of everything we have until there's nothing left. A city attorney who's paid to defend lawsuit after lawsuit, on our dime, people! Stormwater problems that still exist at my property, when I DONATED my easement to the city to put the sewers in, then without checking the ordinances, wanted to make me hook up to it from 300 ft. away, rather than the mandatory 150 ft. in the ordinance. Had to get an attorney to show them the black and white. And the sewer bill keeps going up. Come to find out that the city caused the problem by installing runoff gutters at the property behind me, routing all his stormwater into my back yard. Still waiting for it to be fixed, and when my garage floats away, guess who's gonna pay the bill?? Oh, wait. I'm already paying the bill. Then I'll have to pay to fix the mistakes others made in order to keep my garage from becoming an ark. Does this make sense??
I just don't know how long it will take for people to wake up and realize what's happening. Your kids are going to have to live with this mess...does that matter at all??? Do we really want our kids to have to fix the mess that we've allowed this council to cause in our town by giving in to their consistently unlawful behavior and their pats on the back, secret meetings, and actually voting themselves supreme power to appoint paid employees that the mayor alone BY LAW is to appoint? Is this what we want to teach the kids, how to rob and steal people blind??? Geez, wake up! Get involved! If you see something you think isn't right, think of your kids and their future, and tell me if you want them to learn that we adults just sit by and allow ourselves to be robbed blind.
