No Fireworks Display This Year Print E-mail
Thursday, 03 July 2008

Every year the Arnold Parks Dept hosts a big July 4th event including a fireworks display.  This year, however, they will not have an event because Arnold Park is underwater.

I called the City hall and the lady told me that the event was canceled, and that there would be a fireworks display at Arnold Days in September.

Couldn't they have moved the event to Ferd B Lang, or is it too small for the crowd?

I will say that, as someone who has shot the big city shows in the past, approximately 300'-500' minimum is needed in order to shoot a show safely. Depending on the size of the shells that the city purchases, some will rise 1000' feet into the sky and most will go a minimum of 400' into the sky. If one of those would misfire and explode close to the ground, that much distance is needed to keep the spectators out of danger. So yes, I believe that Lang Park would have been too small and, in addition, there are far too many trees/hills around the area to see it clearly. Also too many rooftops.

I would think for the crowd that the fireworks draw the Ferd B. Land is much to small! Besides watching the reflection in the lake so pretty! =)

For a crowd of 6-7000 people FBL is not big enough

Ahh who cares about the City's fireworks show. We went to Simpson Elementary last night on top of the hill. People from the subdivsions all around were shooting them off for over an hour after the sun went down. Big ones too. It was great and we didn't have to worry about the traffic leaving!
