Mayor Won't Promote Local Businesses? Print E-mail
Saturday, 20 September 2008

In order to get a link on the new ArnoldMO.org website, you have to email the mayor.  So two weeks ago I requested to Mark Powell, the Mayor of Arnold that he add a link to the ArnoldMO.org website for Arnold Talk.  Afterall, AT gets over a half million hits a month from ARNOLD RESIDENTS.

I haven't heard anything back from him.  I doubt I will.

Why won't the Mayor of our town allow a link from the Arnold website to Arnold Talk?  What other 'website of interest' do they link to? Arnold Bowl.  What did Arnold Bowl do to get recognition above and beyond the hundreds of other businesses in Arnold?

Want to know what's really going on in Arnold?  You won't find out on ArnoldMo.org that's for sure.

Where exactly is the arnold bowl link? If I can find that or other business on on their site, I will, and encourage others to email Mayor Powell and request ATs inclusion.

Will,
The title of this is a little misleading. Obviously if Arnold Bowl is on the website the Mayor will in fact support local business. You are just upset that thus far he has not chosen to support YOUR local business.

I was looking through the business directory on line and you are not on it. Here may be the real reason you do not have a link.

Here are two questions that we will need the answer to in order to prove conspiracy. Do you live within the city limits (since this is obviously a home based business)? If yes do you have a business licence. As I said I did look through the online directory of businesses and I did not find Lighthouse tech. I might have been looking in the wrong place. If the answer to either of these No then it is not altogether unreasonable. I know that this is sure to be an unpopular point of view but none the less a valid one.

Funny enough after looking for any business links for a few moments I gave up.

Randy, your points may be a valid point of view, albeit a narrow minded one. This site is about Arnold, promotes Arnold, dicusses Arnold (though not to everyones liking) and is read by the citizens of Arnold. It deals with Arnold issues and gives anyone who chooses to participate a voice. Obviously members of the Arnold govt read, and hopefully pay attention to, the opinions expressed here. Now, the only reason NOT to post a link, IF other business' have links posted, is that the govt of the city of Arnold does not want its citizens to have a voice, discuss or participate. Any other reason is so much smoke.

Will,
I was unable to find a link from the Arnold site to Arnold Bowl, what page is it located on? I will comment further when I find where any links are provided or where I can see the request procedure.
Randy,
Far be it from you to immediately jump to the defense of the City....whether you or the administration cares to admit it or not, this site, ArnoldTalk, is informative and a key source of information of what goes on in and around the City of Arnold. You can all leave your heads stuck in the sand, but many people read this site, and the internet is having more and more influence on the way things are done in the area of politics and local, state and federal government. So you all just keep pretending we are not here, or that we have no significance, I'm sure it will come back to bite you in the future.....how much does that gorilla weigh?

The pdf file I looked at last night on the website at arnold.org, is stamped "OUTDATED" across every page.

How weird.

Editorial comments aside.

Are you an Arnold business? This is a for profit enterprise even if it is not making money.

If you are an Arnold business do you have a licence?

I will explain the significance of each when we have answers to the questions.

Randy,
I gotta tell you, while I am not usually among your detractors, your condescension is appalling. I think that you, as well as the rest of us, know the answers to your questions. I also believe we also all know the 'significance' you will put on it. What we are saying to you is that WE, the readers of ArnoldTalk disagree with the 'significance'. While I still havent seen the place Will is talking about where the links are, IF it exists, my personal opinion is that AT is worthy of a link there.
Randy, IF you have somthing to say in explanation of why it is not, then say it plainly and clearly and please dont have the mistaken impression that you are in such a position as to talk down to us.

Nick,
I need more information in order to give an accurate answer. I will tell you why. I will not speak for the Mayor but I would not put a business on the website that did not comply to the same rules and regulations that everyone else did. No matter if it was a web based business or not. As Will has stated time and again this is a for profit web site created by a for profit company. That company needs to be licensed accordingly. I do not know if light house is a licensed company and I wanted to find out before I gave my thoughts. I was not talking down to anyone I simply requested more information than was available to me to give a cogent answer. If in fact this is run by a local licensed company (and there is such a page of links on the site) I will ask a link be placed on that screen. Though if Will is right and the mayor just has a case of the red butt with Will then there will be nothing more I can do.

Then I guess you would not put a link to the local Journal, or any other business that may be HELPFUL to the citizens of Arnold? Many companies that do business in Arnold are not located here. Your arrogant condescention may not be apparent to you, merely an unconcious act, but watch yourself in the videos, maybe you can recognize it as others do and get some counselling. The first step is to admit you have a problem......

Why don't we call a spade a spade here. ArnoldTalk.com provides a vehicle to discuss and debate the everyday happenings of this town. Good or bad. Obviously, some decisions made by the city gov't haven't been popular and have been criticized by the TAXPAYING CONSTITUENTS of this town on this site. If arnoldmo.org is the City's promotional vehicle for it's programs and to get businesses here, they probably wouldn't want to know about the outrage to eminent domain that happened at the "triangle", or the backlash to the outrageous tax rate we have to pay, or the frivilous lawsuits that are going on. Not to mention trying to evict mobile home residents on a shoddy whim. So maybe it would hurt business if arnoldtalk.com was on the links page. Is that fair? Absolutely not. It's bias. The link should be on arnoldmo.org. This site tells it like it is, good or bad.

Randy, Lighthouse Technologies is a DBA of WCRADA, LLC registered in the state of Missouri.

Interestingly, the link to Arnold Bowl has been removed.

I'm not sure what the hell me living in Arnold or having a business license in Arnold has to do with it. This site provides information on your town. If it were owned by a company in New York or Santa Fe, what does that matter?

There's also a resource page that lists things such as Cable, Phone and gas. Why are those companies getting special treatment, they aren't "local".

Also, the AT&T link is an affiliate link, I believe. That means every time someone signs up for AT&T from that link, someone gets paid. Is it Arnold, or is it the web designer trying to be smooth? Hmm...

I hope I've answered all the questions.

Also, why just AT&T? I have Vonage. Others have Charter. There are plenty of phone services nowadays. There are other cable companies too. Who got this list together?

"I will not speak for the Mayor but I would not put a business on the website that did not comply to the same rules and regulations that everyone else did."

That's an interesting opinion Randy. I thought you only felt that way if it were regarding LAWS, not rules. Do you recall making that distinction, and pointing out that you don't have to follow rules, only ordinances? But now everyone has to follow the rules just the same as everyone else. I'm confused, can you explain why city council members don't have to follow rules, when you state that everyone should follow them equally? I'm just trying to follow your logic here.

Ok Randy, I will take you at your word you were not talking down, but would suggest that you reread carefully before you hit the add comment button because it sure came across that way.
I still believe that there is a place to have these links, and I also believe that AT should qualify. AND most importantly, I think the mayor should answer these requests and his emails and not just ignore them. I think that speaks volumes. And please dont use the excuse that he is a busy man. If the requirement is to email him to get this link, then he should make time to respond to these emails, or delegate it to someone else to do so in a timely manner.
