All this new construction around town costs money. And guess who's going to pay? The residents. That's right, the city gave some sweetheart deals to the developers just to get them to build here, and they are going to pass on their tens of millions of dollars in debt to us. Check out this message from councilman Paul Vinson: Folks, I think the quiet execution of the agenda surrounding this combined TDD was the single largest event of 2007 as far as slick operations go for the city. With hardly a squeak out of the public, the City of Arnold has started a course of action that will result in an additional 1% tax for up to 40 years on a large retail base, that includes the existing and new Wal-mart, the entire plaza where Shop-n-Save is located, Kohl's, new plaza between Kohl's and Shop-n-Save, and generally anything surrounding those areas and around the current approved Triangle and Crossroads TDD. There are some administrative actions (puppet hearings and such) that have to be held, but it will undoubtedly pass. Yep, 8.875% If you don't like it, get involved in your government. --Paul _________________ Paul Vinson Councilman, Ward 1 Arnold, Missouri
The only way we're going to be heard is to get up and say something. Attend a council meeting. Call your councilman. Let them know what you think. And ultimately, you can always show them what you think by voting the 'offendors' out of office.
