Well, everyone missed one doozy of a meeting. I had to leave shortly after the vote on the Internet Harassment Ordinance because there was a foul odor of BS in the air that was making me ill. Apparently, Paul was the only one on the Council that was able to smell it. Bill placed an impassioned plea that the ordinance was uber vague, but ended up voting for it anyways.....???? Not quite sure how that happened.
How ever, there were some great quotes for the evening Doris has on tape, hopefully she gets them posted. Here are a few:
Phil Amato states: "When John Adams was drafting the Constitution, they didn't have Internet, but if they did they would have added something like this....." (for those of you that are historically challenged, George Washington was the 1st President of the US and the Constitution was drafted and ratified prior to the first president as the Constitution created that office. John Adams was 1st Vice President and representative from the Massachusetts Bay colony to the Continental Congress. He was the emissary to Europe. Also, I learned in elementary school that James Madison was primarily responsible for the drafting of the majority of the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights, think Federalist Papers).
Joyce Deckmann: "I am the only grandmother on the council and if this is not passed and a child dies, I could not live with myself" (a $50-$500 fine and up to 3 months imprisonment will not prevent anyone from doing anything, it is strictly punitive and the ordinance mentions nothing about only pertaining to children. Plus, good luck prosecuting a minor).
John Brazeal: "This is going to be a complaint driven ordinance" (Really? No where does the ordinance ever state that. Also, is the APD going to gain access to my personal computer? There are a mountain of legal issues involved when computers start being seized and forensic diagnostics are expensive.)
Butch Cooley: "I am in favor of this ordinance because I was harassed last year around election time by someone on a message board" (glares, winks, and smiles at Doris)- (Really Butch? Vindictive much? Give someone enough rope, and they will hang themselves I guess.. The whole preamble of the ordinance is devoted to the Megan Meier story, which is the stated reason for the ordinance, however, Butch turns it into stopping dialog on a certain local message board directed at him......Maybe we can prosecute retroactively????)
Bill Moritz: "Butch, I sure wish you hadn't just said that" (Bob Sweeney lowers his head and covers half his face with paper, knowing Butch's statement is going to be used against the city if this is challenged)
"This is over-broad and vague legislation and I think it should be tabled and reconsidered" "Yes" (WTF just happened??? Bill, you were doing so well.)
Bob Sweeney: "I certainly have no pride in authorship" (note: looking down and away as if embarrassed) (yes, that is how the word embarrassed is spelled)
Al Ems: "Joyce, I commend you, this is a great piece of legislation" (Really? You think? I thought is was horribly written and riddled with misspellings, not to mention unconstitutional, I guess we got different copies)
Randy Crisler:.....Crickets....crickets...crickets.. "Yes" (Randy, I had really hoped you would have said something. Usually you seem to be able to see through this crap. I even sent you a nice, respectful note referencing my specific concerns on Tuesday and received no reply. Had hoped to get your input as this is a mess.)
Forgive me if I missed anyone's poignant insight into this issue. I tried to hit the highlights.
Doris, if I missed anything, let me know. I sure hope we get to see some video clips. _________________ Matt Hay

Cathy Wooldridge is not a councilmember. She is an elected official to the fire board. Just wanted to make that clarification in her defense.
The poster didn't list David Venable in the biggest bully poll. Now that's offensive!!
And no more Mr. Nice Guy for me. If I can't make the poll, things are gonna change.
Matt, your council meeting post was LOUSY!!!
Doris, you're a loud-mouthed, forked-tongue.......
Will, I hate your new website!!!!!
CC, you're two-faced
Shirley, you're a fence-rider from the word go. AND YOU DO ALWAYS STATE THE OBVIOUS!!!
Nick, you're the pompous ass not Matt Hay.
You guys got it all wrong. You need to get your heads out of your @$$e$ and smell the coffee, not the BS. Phil, Joyce, and all of their buddies are THE ABSOLUTE BEST for coming up with this clearly written ordinance.
Who's gonna put the ordinance to the test first????? |

Randy,
I think they were referring to a council member(Randy Crisler) calling Cathy a racist, not saying that Cathy was a council member.....sorry you didn't make the list guess you just haven't offended enough people in the GOB circle....work on that. will you? _________________ Doris

Will,
I absolutely LOVE the article on the front page. I love the graphic, too. I got a kick out of reading it.
And, Randy, two-faced? Is that all you can come up with??? I thought you would have thought of something better than that for me. I see where I rank on your list.

Yes, that was what I was getting at.
Will, can you add the write ins at all? Wish I had an edit button _________________ Matt Hay

Alright. So I misunderstood.
QUIT BULLYING ME OR I'LL CALL THE INTERNET NAZI'S!!!!
Oh wait. I can't say that or someone will think I'm racist.
This post, in no way, is intended to make light of the events that took place in Dardienne Prairie.
However, it is intended to make light of the ridiculous, haphazard, and knee-jerk reactions of this group of elected officials running your city. |

I so misquoted that, the statement was, "When John Adams, our first president, was drafting the Constitution, they didn't have Internet, but if they did they would have added something like this....."
I can't believe I screwed that up........ _________________ Matt Hay

Matt,
Thanks for the post of last night's meeting; I really needed a laugh right now and your post did it! I can't wait for the 'movie.'
John Adams was our first U.S. president!? Maybe in Amato's world. I always thought that Madison drafted most of the Constitution as well.
Butch Cooley really needs to grow a thicker skin if he wants to remain in office. After all, unflattering comments and critiques come with any elected official's job. |

Very impressive job, thanks for summing up.
Can't wait for the video-is it going to be youtubed?
Loved the part where the gentleman said he is all for this because he was victimized last year on the Internet himself right around election time.
Can they fit a baggy pants ban into the agenda before the end of the year?
Has anyone started a doris defensefund? Yet?
Why couldn't they include something about misspelling on the Internets? I could make a citizen's arrest on that one right now! |
