I was putting ArnoldTalk flyers on cars at the 24 Hour Fitness lot
APD Officer: Sorry, you can't put those on cars. There's an ordinance against it.
Me: Oh?
APD Officer: Yeah, they saw you.
Me: Who? The city council guys?
APD Officer: Yeah, you have to stop.
Me: Ok. _________________ Advertise on Arnold Talk | Why Can't I Find Your Site on Google? |

Will
Since they stopped you on the parking lot before the parade started I assume were you able to put any on the cars at the park or did you try?
I do remember some time ago they had addressed the issue of flyers being put on vehicles at parking lots but it still happens all the time so I didn't even think about it when you mentioned you were going to do this. Sorry I could have forwarned you if I had been thinking.
I no Doris said something about putting some flyers at one of the booths. I don't think they could stop you from doing that and hope you got some out that way. |

Shirley,
I saw many and had many things on my windows the last two days. I would have to say it's who you are and who you know in Will's case. Just another load of shit that some of the boys in the brick house wanted to hand out today.
I have a story myself about Arnold Days. I was helping Dr. T the dentist in his battle of getting the petition's signed to stop eminent domain as it is used today. This woman walks by and I ask her nicely if she is a registered voter. She states yes. I then ask her if she would like to sign the petition. She gets a look on her face and says I'm a council woman. MS. Dieckman (sp?) was who it was. I wanted to say I didn't ask you who you were I asked you if you wanted to sign the petition but I didn't. Needless to say she didn't sign. I didn't know her from Adam until she said that. That is what made it funny.

I got about 100 of them out before someone snitched. I thought it was funny.
It is rumored that over 1600 Arnold Talk flyers were given out this weekend. _________________ Advertise on Arnold Talk | Why Can't I Find Your Site on Google? |

Will,
I have to tell you, I am one of those folks that dont like having flyers put on my car, by anyone, even a group I like or approve of. I guess it comes from the days of having a car I fixed up and showed, and not liking anyone touching it. I dont think they should be selective in enforcing this, but should stop anyone from doing it..... including the rec center. |

You know I could maybe understand this on a normal day but when you have a parade going on you have to expect to give a little. See this is one of the things that I feel the City officials are missing the boat on. Working with people instead of against them.
I would have to think the police had much better things to do with their time then to have to go and tell Will to stop putting his flyer's on the windows of cars because a politician may not like what Arnold Talk does for them.
Petty nothing more.

Well, it may or may not have been petty, and targeted at Will, I cant comment on that one way or another.
But, I dont think the parade makes a difference, if it is prohibited, then it is. If I had been there, and I had seen someone putting fliers on cars, had called the cops, should they tell me that it is prohibited, but they werent going to address it today? (I wasnt there, so I didnt , and have never called the police about it. I have called a business or two and let them know I didint appreciate it.)
I guess it is just one of my pet peeves, like nose blowing in a restaurant..... yuck. |

Having had a show truck of my own, I can certainly appreciate that. And I'm very anal about putting the flyers on. I only touch the wiper, and I carefully slide the paper under.
Aside from that, I was still able to get plenty of them handed out. The funny thing is that right before that happened, I saw Randy and another person (Cooley?). Randy said "Willlllll...." and I waved. The other man looked like he said something to Randy, then a few minutes later the two cops with nothing better to do came over and told me about this mighty ordinance. He even admitted that the council guys are the ones that sent them my way.
It kinda made me smile to know that this little site is obviously disrupting the way things are run around here. You shoulda heard all the nice words I got today as I handed them out.
By the way, Saturday night when putting flyers on cars at the park, I had to put mine on top of "Little Gym", "Hey Taxi" and another full-page flyer, I think for a towing company or something. _________________ Advertise on Arnold Talk | Why Can't I Find Your Site on Google? |

Will,
I got a good reception from people that I handed flyers to. I did manage to give them to all of the businesses in and around Arnold that had booths at the fair. I do hope some of those people contact you. The embroidery lady sounded especially interested, but unfortunately she had just purchased a website elsewhere:cry: It is a great way to advertise and find out whats going on around town. I know when I went to leave yesterday there was a flyer on my windshield for Kids Nite Out, and nobody stopped them. Of course , no one stopped me either..... _________________ Doris

I don't like flyers put on my car but I also don't like them stuck in my door at home.
The problem I have with this entire thing is the fact that many times when I go shopping in Arnold I come out to find a flyer on my car. I feel if this is going to be enforced it needs to be done to everyone not just a select few.
As Will stated he had to put his on top of two or three others at the park Sat. night. Apparently no one was enforcing the law at that time.
This would lead me to believe that someone made the suggestion the law be enforced when Will was putting them on cars the day of the parade. I wasn't there so cannot say who did it but I would say someone did. |

Will,
It was me.
Now that the important statement has been made for people to chide about here is why. I hate that stuff on my windshield so do most other people. You knew you shouldn't be doing it as you put your finger up to pursed lips when I saw you as if you were shooshing a child. That did not bother me and I in no way took offense but you were doing something that there was an ordinance against and I assume you knew it. That is the same thing I do with solicitors. If they knock on my door I tell them the law and if I see them knock on another door I call the police. These things are a nuisance. I have nothing against your site as you know. I think the right of free speech is paramount to this countries survival. I love your site. As you know I read it every day. For the most part I do not participate because there is not enough time in the day to argue over everything, but I do lurk. What I did was not personal and I hope you did not take it that way. If I had seen people doing that at the park I would have told the police to stop them as well. As for the rec center that is a conversation for tomorrow. _________________ Randy Crisler |

Another fine example of how those red light cameras have freed up time for the Arnold Police Department so they can tend to more pressing business like preventing Public Enemy#1 from distributing flyers about a website.
Good grief. |

ps: Other than that, how was Arnold Days this year?
We didn't attend any of the events as we had a wedding (not our own) and a couple other events going on.
Crowds? Parade on Sunday? Booths and attractions? Good/bad? Weather helpful or hindrance? |
